The Hellenic American Union has announced a series of improvements and new services which will be introduced over the next two years (2010 – 2011) for the BCCE and ALCE.
The improvements and new services are being developed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), are based on extensive research and modern testing theory and come after consultations with the educational community, language school owners and EFL teachers.
The changes meet the evolving needs of BCCE and ALCE candidates.
From January 2010
•New Result Reports that use a scale of 0-30 units per examining section
•Rescoring Service for the Writing section that will include detailed information concerning the performance of the candidates by using extracts from their essays
•Recordings of all oral ALCE and BCCE tests and Rescoring Service for the Speaking Test of ALCE and BCCE
Changes in the format of the exams
For the ALCE:
•Listening:
opart 1: the graphs and tables will be replaced by other tasks
opart 3: will be heard twice
opart 4: the questions will be printed in the candidate’s booklet
•Writing:
othe Report will be replaced; there will be a choice between two essays instead of an essay and a report
onew Writing Scoring Rubric
•Reading:
othe size of texts will not exceed the 500 words
For the BCCE:
•Listening:
ochanges in tasks
•Writing:
owriting two emails instead of an e-mail and a letter
•Grammar and Vocabulary:
owill consist of short dialogues
From June 2011
In order to better inform the members of the educational community about these improvements, the Hellenic American Union will be scheduling training seminars and distributing support material for teachers.
